More than 50 investors and private market professionals joined us in Singapore on Tuesday, 4 August, for Beyond the Fund-of-Funds: Direct Investing, Co-Investments, and the New Rules of Private Market Access.
Hosted by Auptimate, the session brought together family offices and private market professionals for a practical discussion on how access to private markets is evolving. Olivier Too, CEO & Co-Founder of Auptimate, was joined by Varun Mittal, Managing Director of Keenai Wealth by Lighthouse Canton, and Charlie In, Chairman of Raffles Financial. The conversation looked at what a more direct approach actually requires, from deciding where direct investments and co-investments fit within a portfolio to the governance and operational work that follows.
One point became clear: family offices are looking beyond traditional fund-of-funds as they consider more direct ways to access private markets.
Direct investments and co-investments can give investors greater control over what enters their portfolio and closer visibility into individual opportunities. But that control comes with more responsibility for how investments are evaluated, structured and managed.
Conviction matters, but so do execution and governance. The conversation repeatedly returned to the infrastructure required to support an investment and the operational readiness needed over the long term.
The broader takeaway from the morning was that private markets aren’t shrinking. The way capital moves through them is changing.
Investors are becoming more selective about the structures they use and how directly they want to participate. For family offices in particular, that means weighing the benefits of greater control against the operational responsibility that comes with it.
